Winter Camp: Glenkin Outdoor Centre

 

Dear Scouts, Explorers, Parents and Guardians,

 

This year's Winter Camp will be to the Glenkin Outdoor Centrein Dunoon from 18th- 20th November. The 30th have been theremany times before and it is a favourite of the Scouters.

We will be hillwalking, swimming, taking part in wide games and a whole load of other surprises as well as all the usual Scouting activities.

 

The cost of the camp is £51 and this includes all food, activities, transport and accommodation. Please come and see any of the Scouters if you require to discuss payment options.

 

Spaces for the camp are limited, so get a deposit of £20 and theattached form back to the Scouters as soon as possible. The last date for deposits to be in will be Fri 28th October.

 

Go-Karting

Hi All

I've booked go-karting at Scotkart - Clydebank for this Monday 24/10/11 at 19:15. We will be meeting at Scotkart ( John Knox Street, Clydebank, G81 1NA.)

Cost of the karting for under 16 is £22pp for your session. (for the purpose of go-karting all explorers are under 16). Although this is slightly dearer than the last time we are getting a lot more karting you our buck taking full advantage of a 3 for 2 offer.

Changing Meeting Night

Dear Explorers, Parents, and Guardians

Due to the increased numbers on Explorer Scouts within the unit The Explorer Scout Unit will be changing from a Friday evening to a Monday evening. This will take effect on Monday the 3rd of October 2011. (The last Friday evening meeting will be Friday 30th September 2011)
This will allow for the Explorers to take full advantage of the hall. The start and finish times of Monday night meetings will remain the same (19:30-21:30)

RAF Leuchars on Sat 10th September

Hi folks,


As you know you have paid and booked a place for the Scouts/Explorers visit to RAF Leuchars on Sat 10th September.

Meeting Place/Time: 7:20am in Glasgow Queen Street Station
Dress: Casual, but please have waterproofs - it is a long day of being outdoors. You must wear your neckie.
Travel: We will be travelling by train to Dundee, then onto Leuchars. It's a short walk then to the airshow.
Money: Those who have paid in advance will get an allowance to buy their lunch, but you should bring extra because drinks and snacks are expensive
Pickup: We hope to be back in Glasgow Queen Street Station about 6pm, but Scouts and Explorers will call their parents when we are 1/2 hour away on the train.

Tomorrow Night

Unfortunately due to work commitments i cant make it down to Explorer Scouts tomorrow night.



I had planned on taking you to the park (as the forecast looks good).

Go-karting! Yas

MEETING @ SCOTKART THIS FRIDAY 19:15!

I've booked go-karting at Scotkart - Clydebank for this Friday at 19:15. We will be meeting at Scotkart ( John Knox Street, Clydebank, G81 1NA.)

Cost of the karting is £15pp for your session for over 16 (sorry Aidan).  Under 16 is £12pp for your session.

If anyone has any problems with getting to scotkart give me a shout and I'll try and sort something out.

Rock Climbing

Explorer Scout Pandemonium Camp

What?
Pandemonium is an Explorer Scout event ran by Clyde Region. The camp has been organised to allow all Explorers and Leaders in Clyde Region to camp, share ideas, join in activities, take part in a night challenge and opt in for modules.

The modules available to opt in are:
• Explorer / Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
• Young Leaders Scheme
• Module A
• Basic First Aid training

Cost:

The cost of the weekend is £35 per person (£30 if you book your place by 19th August). This includes Saturday BBQ dinner, camp fees, activities and modules. Places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
Activities:
The activities during the day will be a selection of on site Auchengillan activities. Please watch this page for more up-to-date information.

Camping:

As the camp is under canvas everyone will need to bring their own lightweight tents, sleeping bags etc.

Programme:

• The weekend will begin with a themed Disco/Karaoke on the Friday night, after you have set-up camp.

• Saturday will see a range of joint activities and opt in modules followed by a barbecue and Team Challenge hike (ran by the Hills Team)

• After a long lie on Sunday Morning, it’s time for Messy Games, played in teams whilst been covered in flour etc. There will be a winning prise for the winning team. Remember to bring a change of clothes.

• Before everyone departs on Sunday afternoon, there will be an Explorer Belt presentation and the launch of Clyde’s Explorer Belt

• The camp will finish around 2:30pm on the Sunday.
Leaders are encouraged to attend the event to share ideas and are welcome to attend modules during the day to take back and run locally. We will require the support of as many leaders as possible to make the event as great as it can be. The Staff fee for all leaders will be £15 each. A form is enclosed with the booklet for anyone who can help out.

As the Saturday BBQ is the only meal being provided, remember to bring food and equipment. Why don’t you try to organise your food at District level. This will allow you to meet fellow local Explorer Scouts who you would otherwise might not meet.

I realise that am asking for a lot of money all at the one time, the Auchengillan Camp & RAF Leuchars money has to be in for the due of 17 June 2011 as this is the last day of Scouts.

However as the Explorer Scout Unit will continue to run throughout the summer months i am happy to allow more time for the Capitation Money.

Auchengillan Walk & Camp

On Saturday 9 July 2011 the Capie Scouts & ESU will be walking the first section of the west highland way (Milngavie to Carbeth - 5 miles) followed by an overnight stay (under canvas) at Auchengillan Outdoor Centre. This is a great opportunity to practice all your scouting skills learned over the last couple of camps - such as Bivvi Making & Backwoods Cooking.

The cost of the camp will be £15pp (to be paid by the 17 June 2011).

Important Meeting Times:-

Meeting at Queen Street Station at 8:45 Saturday 9th July.

Returning to Scout Hall at 18:00 on Sunday 10th July.

Waterproof Clothing and Strong walking Boots or Shoes are required for the walk!

Transport
If anyone is able to help out with transport home on the Sunday afternoon please make yourself known to myself or any of the scouters - your help would be greatly appreciated!

RAF Leuchars Airshow

Hi Guys

Following last year's visit which was a great success and enjoyed by all - we will be going to visit RAF Leuchars Airshow on Saturday 10TH September 2011.

The Event starts at 10am until 6pm so we will be leaving Glasgow Queen Street sharp at 7:30am (in order to get to the event in plenty of time).

As with last year there will be an array of flying dispays throughtout the day by various planes,jets, and older aircarft aswell as different stalls & events that we can participate in.

Simon has set the price at £35.00pp, now this may seem steep for a day trip but this is to cover your entry ticket & travel to a from the event. Any excess money will be given directly back to you guys.

All monies are to be paid by Friday 17th June - s the Scout Troop will finish up for summer then.

a private preview this Saturday 4th June between 10am and 12 noon.

Capitation Fees

Hi Guys

This post is more for your parents & guardians.

Our Capitation Fees are due in the next two weeks (to be paid by 10 June 2011) and is set at £21.50 for the 2011 season.

Capitation Fees are due annually, and cover membership fees to the Scout Association for your son/daughter whilst they are with the group.

Explorers This Friday

Hi Guys

I hope you all enjoyed last weekends camp to Kilcreggan - next time I'll book better weather :-)

Unfortunately I wont be down at Explorers this coming Friday but fear not as Ross has a fun filled jam packed programme for you guys. Kilcreggan Camp

Hi Guys

Its almost time for camp! This Friday - 6 May 2011 we'll be heading off to camp so there will be No Explorers.

We will be meeting at the Scout Hall at 1830 Sharp. Full uniform must be worn (No Uniform no camp - you have be warned!)

We should be arriving back at the hall at 1600 – to unpack the gear so your parents can expect you ready for about 1630.

Spring Camp

Hi All

This years Spring camp will be to Kilcreggan on on the Clyde coast from 6TH - 8TH May. Am sure most of you remember the site from last year and that we had an excellent time. This year the Explorers will be camping outside - in comfortable patrol tents and to reflect this the program will be based on the outdoors.

We'll be doing all the usual scouting activities as well as some hill walking, wide games, and some badges work.

Last Friday Ross and I gave you introduction to Knife, Axe, and Saw. This ties in with your badge work and will be a key part of camp. As such i don't mind you (Explorers) bringing knives/multi tools and fire steels to camp. This is of course something that should be discussed with your parents and is not an essential part of your kit - so you don't need to run out and buy them!

Full details of the camp will be given on the 29TH April
